I cannot say enough about the dog I have purchased from Havenrock! Jersey is now 8 years old and I constantly get asked if she is still a pup. She has been a wonderful addition to my family. I will always say she has been the best investment I’ve ever done and I will be back to give her a sibling when I have more room! She puts a smile on my face everyday and when I got her Havenrock was wonderful. I can’t thank them enough.

We got our Cooper 6 years ago from Havenrock and to this day he is healthy, has a lovely temperament, and is playful as a puppy. We got all of Cooper’s papers promptly, the Havenrock breeders were really accommodating and caring, and the dogs we met while there were lovely. They were also knowledgeable about responsible breeding within the Bernese community. Highly recommend and would go back to them in a heartbeat despite living in a different province.

Clover, our Havenrock puppy, is now four and a half years old and a happy and healthy Berner! She is the most amazing family dog - she loves fun walks, plays with other dogs and is full of energy. She likes lots of love and attention and is even a lap dog at times! When we decided that a Bernese was the right fit for our family we contacted Havenrock and they were so helpful in allowing us to come and visit other litters, communicating with us through the whole process and allowing us into their home to select our puppy from the litter. (Although she actually chose us!) It was very clear to us that Havenrock love all of their dogs and only want them to go to good, loving homes. We would highly recommend Havenrock for anyone that is considering adding a Berner to their family!  Stephnie

ABOUT THE BREED:

Appearance: The Bernese Mountain Dog is a striking tri-coloured large dog. The coat is mainly black with striking markings of white and rust. The males appear masculine as they are usually larger and their heads are squarer shaped, while females are slightly smaller and more distinctly feminine.

Temperament: The Berner is good-natured, alert, and displays a confidence. They are great with children. They may appear reserved with strangers. They are an excellent companion dog and are not recommended to be used for security purposes although they will alert their owners to people or cars approaching their home; but be prepared they would be looking for a good scratch behind the ears rather then defending your home.

Size: On average: Measured at the withers males are 25 to 27-1/2 inches with an average weight of 85-120 pounds, females are 23 to 26 inches and weigh 65-100 pounds.

Coat: The coat is of medium length, thick, but very soft and is slightly wavy or straight and should appear shiny. Yes, they do shed. They are not the best choice for people with allergies.

Colour and Markings: The base colour is jet black. There is a rust coloured spot over each eye, on the each cheek reaching to at least the comer of the mouth, and on each side of the chest, on all four legs, and under the tail. There is a white blaze and muzzle band. The white markings on the chest should form a cross. The tip of the tail is white. White on the feet is desired but must not extend higher than the pasterns.

Gait: 'Flight of foot' can describe our dogs at a full run. They are agile and capable of speed. A slow trot is said to be the working gate of the Bernese.
